Adios Amigos...

what ever happened to the good old days?  when kids could rescue woodpeckers and set up lemonade stands and drive tractors on their parents' farms without a license...or rode in cars with grandparents and actually had conversations with them instead of with their cell phones?  when churches held bake sales for proceeds to benefit the church and when neighbors could share home grown produce without the government sticking their grubby noses where they don't belong?  sadly, a lot of this is happening in my home state and it makes me sick!  even sicker than whatever is going on in my sinuses right now that's blurring my vision.

one of my fondest memories with my grandparents was flying down berne road, my brother, cousins and i lying in the back of the station wagon, rolling like logs through the turns...begging our papa to step on it over the hills to make our stomachs fly up into our chests.  we didn't wear seat belts.  there were no height and weight restrictions to sitting in the front seat.  it only depended on how fast you could yell "shotgun!".  we turned out alright....DIDN'T WE?!

i really wish i grew up in a different era.  my grandparents era.  things were simple...and hard.  people knew how to work, and treat each other with respect and dignity.  things are changing before my very eyes on a level i never thought possible for the greatest nation on earth.  witnessing history is quite extraordinary but the uncertainty of what lies in wait for the next 10-20 years is downright frightening.

on a more pleasant note, our temperatures are soaring to record highs this week.  it hurts to step outside.  it's a big, giant smack to the face with a hot iron.  ever work at a bakery??  i have.  it's like walking into a giant oven.  the mere fact that i can sweat standing still in the shade is unfathomable to me.  if it hadn't just happened today i wouldn't believe it was possible.  it's a bazillion degrees outside.  and rain?  what is rain???

  1. I share your sentiment, dear. Isn't is a comfort to know that there is One Who never changes?! And herein lies our hope:

  2. We are old souls my dear friend ;) I love that you appreciate the good ol' days! One of my favorite memories in Chesaw with my aunt and brothers was "loading up" in the back of the truck with the dogs and trying not to hit your head on the canopy going over every bump on the dirt roads. Love it.
